LDAP Server
MailNow! supports LDAP which in mailNow! 5 open-LDAP is used which is a standard and open source LDAP and also very popular. In MailNow! to start or stop the LDAP server you need to go Windows service and start or stop them directly. The name of the server is “MailNow! 5 LDAP”.
But to set the port number for LDAP server, you can configure it in MailNow! 5 admin account under LDAP Server. By default the port is set to 3389. Bear in mind that if you are running your MailNow! on Windows server the default LDAP port 3389 could be used by active directory.
So in such case you probably would want to change LDAP port to a different port. The purpose of LDAP is of course to allow those using LDAP clients such as Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird to use LDAP to connect to LDAP server to access their personal address book exists inside MailNow!. However by default we don’t publish the personal address book for each individual users because most users have large number of addresses in their address book and if MailNow! intends to publish all of them, it will take a long time.
So if you wish to publish your personal address book, ensure that you check this checkbox. There is also a button on the top toolbar called Regenerate which allows you to republish all the addresses, namely global address book, domain level address book and personal address books to LDAP server. Once again it is not recommended to publish the personal address book due to its size and number of addersses.
Hence to include the global and domain address book, select the first 2 checkboxes and click on Generate. You will see a progress bar that shows the progress of regeneration. So once again, if the personal address book is checked, it will take much longer to regenerate the address book as it needs to publish for each single user.
Please note that regeneration of LDAP database is not necessary if a new user is added or the information about a user is amended. To collaborate more, the regeneration of LDAP server database is only useful if you need to force republishing of your address book to LDAP server for any reason.
